Field trip in France

Still unregistered for Paris?

Those planning to attend this year's AAPG International Conference and Exhibition in Paris, France, face a big deadline this month: The chance to save up to $280 on their registration fee.

Aug. 23 is the deadline for savings on preregistration for the meeting, which will be held Sept. 11-14 at the CNIT Conference and Exhibition Centre. The meeting marks the first time an AAPG international conference has been held in Paris.

The meeting's general theme is "New Tracks to New Highs."

Another reason to focus now on Paris is because only one of the field trips still has openings -- and it's a beauty that's filling fast. Trip #2, a pre-meeting trip to Ireland to study "The Carboniferous Shannon Basin, Western Ireland: An Analogue for Petroleum Basins of Atlantic Margins with Deepwater, Slope and Shelf Margin Systems (Hydro)," offers the chance to see world-class exposures of deep- to shallow-water sedimentary rocks exposed in seismic scale outcrops.

The Paris technical program also includes two forums addressing today's business and geopolitical climate, and seven short courses that are offered by IFP, the host society, Total (for graduate students) and AAPG.

Complete meeting information, including registration and technical abstracts, can be found online at www.aapg.org/paris/.
