AAPG Candidates Announced

Three candidates for AAPG President-elect will be on the ballot for 2006-07 as a petition candidate successfully entered the slate.

AAPG Advisory Council and Executive Committee-nominated candidates for president-elect on the ballot are:

President-Elect

Will Green

Willard R. "Will Green, independent/consultant with Green Energy  Resources, Midland, Texas

G. Warfield "Skip" Hobbs

Ammonite Resources, New Canaan, Conn.

Peter M. Lloyd

retired, former Schlumberger, Falicon, France.

Hobbs and Lloyd were nominated by the AAPG Advisory Council and approved by the AAPG Executive Committee. Green entered the race by gaining required signatures on a petition.

Green's petition marks the fourth time -- in the last three ballot seasons and in the 88-year history of AAPG -- that a candidate has entered a race for international office by way of petition. The first was for 2003-04 office, and two petition candidates were on the ballot for 2004-05 Executive Committee seats. One of the three previous petition candidacies was successful.

AAPG Bylaws clearly state the methods by which candidates may appear on the ballot and allow petitions for non-nominated candidates to be delivered to headquarters for validation prior to Oct. 15.

Hobbs and Lloyd were on a list of candidates for president-elect compiled by the Nominations Committee and approved by the Advisory Council and forwarded to the AAPG Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee is the governing body elected Association-wide to represent the members, plus the chairman of the House of Delegates, chosen by the delegates elected locally to represent the membership. The Advisory Council, consisting of 20 people, includes elected members from AAPG's U.S. Sections and international Regions; the elected officers of each Division; the immediate past-president; two former presidents; and the past-chairman of the House of Delegates.

Candidates for the other offices nominated were:

Vice President

John C. Dolson

BP, Moscow, Russia.

John C. Lorenz

Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, N.M.

Treasurer

Randi S. Martinsen

University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyo.

William A. Morgan

ConocoPhillips, Houston.

The president-elect winner will serve as AAPG president in 2007-08. The vice president will serve for the 2006-07 term and the treasurer will serve for 2006-08.

Candidate statements and biographies will appear in the January issue of the EXPLORER. Official candidate campaign guidelines are printed in the accompanying article, and are available online.
