Peak flow rates from 146 individual wells from 16 oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico plotted against the year in which the peak rate was achieved. It was 1995 before wells were capable of flow rates in excess of 10,000 BOPD, 1998 when the first well exceeded 20,000 BOPD and 1999 when the 30,000 BOPD barrier was broken.
