The newly commenced AAPG Membership Enhancement and Development Drive is beginning to heat up with activity as applications are coming in for processing -- and the newly developed recruiter kits are ready to go!

Dan Smith, immediate past AAPG president, is heading up the ad hoc committee and is assembling his team, a topic you'll hear more about in next month's EXPLORER.

This time there is cash on the table.

Spread the word.

The door of opportunity is open for you and your local society or international region to cash in on one of the membership drive awards.

(Tip: As fall meetings resume, start the new season with a joint membership drive for your local organization and for AAPG. Recruiting results will be on a percentage basis, so small and large groups have an equal chance to come out on top.)

Now is the time to "Tap Your Resources" -- the theme of this new campaign. Recruiters can win points by recruiting new Active and Associate members or by referring eligible candidates in groups of five names. At the same time the recruiter's society or region also will be given a point.

The top overall individual recruiter will receive a trip to the 2004 AAPG International Meeting and Exhibition in Cancun, Mexico. There is only one prize for the top individual recruiter, but the societies and regions have three chances to win:

  • First prize -- $1,250.
  • Second prize -- $1,000.
  • Third prize -- $500.

Of course, an equal goal of the membership drive is to communicate the benefits of AAPG membership. The many benefits offered by AAPG have been highlighted in the Membership Value Pyramid (as found in the new recruiter kits). Using the pyramid makes it easy to discuss with potential members the benefits available to AAPG members and it portrays the building blocks needed to support a strong professional community.

Of course, all members who recruit get "stuff," including a desk flag for everyone who recruits one new member and special recognition lapel pins for those who recruit three or more.

(Want a quick idea for contacting that candidate? Attach a handwritten invitation and a membership application to this copy of the EXPLORER and send it to them.)

And be sure you enter your name as the recruiter on the application form so that you and your society or region will earn that point.

Recruiter kits are available for the asking. Contact Donna Riggs 1-(800) 364-2275 -- ext. 612. Find the contest rules, membership applications and more information on AAPG's Web site.
