Annual History Forum Features Exploration Success Stories

Three examples of exploration success stories will be featured in this year's History of Petroleum Geology Forum at the AAPG Annual Meeting.

"Lessons From Discoveries," featuring success stories from near (Wyoming) and far (China), will be offered from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 11, in Ballroom J of the Salt Palace Convention Center.

The session, chaired by Robert Ginsburg and Marlan Downey, will feature three talks, plus ample time for discussion. The program includes:

  • "Discovery of Peng Lai 19-3 Oil Field, China's Largest Offshore Pearl," a talk prepared by five geoscientists with the Chinese National Offshore Oil Co., and five from ConocoPhillips, presented by Michael D. Kuykendall, Bartlesville, Okla.
  • "Taming a Wyoming Wildcat With 3-D: Dipmeters, Downspacing and Dante's Inferno in Cave Gulch," presented by Fred Barrett, president of the Bill Barrett Corp., Arvada, Colo.
  • "Reefs Between the Lines, Shell's Silurian Reef Play," presented by Downey, a consultant in Dallas.
