After years of promise, practical data compression is becoming
a reality for geoscientists. In the example here, the left image shows
a migrated stacked seismic data set. In the center, the results of the
compression/decompression at a 20:1 compression ratio are displayed.
The figure at the right shows the difference between the original and
the compressed/decompressed at a compression ratio of 20:1.
All the results have been plotted using the same amplitude scale.
