Student Expo Can Change Your Life
Graduating geology students want jobs. Exploration
and production companies need young geologists.

That novel idea once again will be a reality Sept.
30-Oct. 1 on the Rice University campus in Houston, as AAPG and
the Society of Exploration Geophysicists co-sponsor the sixth Student
Expo, designed to mutually benefit students interested in geoscience
careers as well as environmental and petroleum industry representatives
The two-day Expo provides opportunities for students
to showcase their work in poster sessions, network with industry
representatives, attend a career workshop and visit recruiters'
In turn, industry representatives are given a cost-efficient
venue to link with potential new hires and interns and see their
work and skills in a unique environment.
Representatives of the sponsoring companies are invited
to present exhibits to promote their activities or services. Sponsors
are provided with student resumes prior to the Expo, and are encouraged
to invite students to their office for exposure to industry and/or

which has proven to be an excellent venue to "strut your stuff"
before potential employers.
Four previous Student Expos were held at Rice and
one was held last spring at the University of Oklahoma. The 2000
Expo at Rice drew 150 students from over 50 colleges and universities,
and generated jobs and internships that would not have happened
any other way.

Faculty of university departments wishing to host
a poster must submit an abstract.
Late registration (after Sept. 15) and onsite registration
fee is an additional $5.
Poster session abstracts book is $10 for students
and free for sponsors. Students who wish to participate in the poster
session must submit an abstract. Those registering after Sept. 11
will not be able to submit an abstract nor have a poster session.
Students must submit their resume upon registration.
These will be made available to industry sponsors.
Resumes received after Sept. 11 will not be included
in the resume booklet for corporate sponsors, but will be distributed
to sponsors after they arrive at the Expo.
