Greenland Wants 'Oil Lamp' to Light

Early Paleocene incised valley fill sandstones of the Quikavasak Formation - a possible reservoir in western Nuussuaq and in the offshore areas of Greenland. Were there a game covering exploration forecasts of the past decade called "Who's Got the Potential?" Greenland would be among the world's top players. Since 1992, when seeping oil was detected in the western Disko-Nuussuaq region, Greenland has become a geological playground for companies hoping to find the next great play. Results are pending for a new well that was spudded in July for Statoil and three partners about 145 kilometers offshore of Greenland's capital, Nuuk - and those findings could confirm the region's long-discussed potential.
