While most scientists do agree that global temperatures have increased, not all scientists agree that the increase is due to the build up of greenhouse gases. In fact, studies indicate that temperature increases from 1970 to the present are almost identical to the period from 1910 to 1940, when greenhouse gases were minimal. There are many elements at work on planetary temperatures. For example, one important factor is solar output, which accounts for a great deal of warming at the surface in the last century. There is a direct correlation between increased solar output and temperature increases.
