Marine seismic crews for Schlumberger Geco-Prakla spent the early summer months working a huge (530 square kilometers) speculative 4-C seismic shoot over parts of the West Delta region in the Gulf of Mexico -- about 30 miles southwest of New Orleans. The operation was of note first because of its size, but also because it represented use of "an emerging technology" in the Gulf, where 4-C proponents believe it will prove itself an important tool in helping geologists to identify new horizons in older plays.
