Immersive View Went Beyond 3-D On SPR Project

Return to Story
Cavernous Boom Box?

Computer images like these can be dazzling and fun -- but they can also be valuable. These "pretty" images are actually part of a sequence created and viewed in an immersive visualization center -- part of a salt dome model that helped the public deal with an underground storage facility near Beaumont, Texas.

For the public in Jefferson County, Texas, seeing was believing -- and accepting that a project was safe and feasible. These images are part of a sequence showing existing and proposed storage caverns at Big Hill salt dome, which was a Department of Energy Strategic Petroleum Reserve site.
