Two Set for Europe, One in Latin America

International Lecture Tours Booked

This spring AAPG will sponsor three international Distinguished Lecture tours -- two in Europe and one in Latin America.

Mary Ford, with Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Géologie, Nancy, France, will be doing a Western Europe tour March 13-24.

Her topics include:

  • Interaction of Folding, Sedimentation and Erosion in Three Dimensions -- A Study of the Sant Llorenc de Morunys Fault Propagation Fold, SE Pyrenees Using gOcad: Initial Results.

  • Significance of Growth Structures in Foreland Orogenic Systems.

Frank J. Picha, formerly with Chevron Overseas Petroleum, San Ramon, Calif., will be doing an Eastern Europe tour.

His topics include:

  • Sedimentary Basins and Petroleum Systems in Terms of Global Tectonic Cycles.
  • Exploration for Hydrocarbons Under Thrust Belts -- A Challenging Frontier.
  • Paleogene Valleys of Northern Tethyan Margins and Their Hydrocarbon Potential.

Lee Krystinik, with Union Pacific Resources, Fort Worth, Texas, will be doing a Latin America tour March 6-24.

His schedule is yet to be finalized.

His topics include:

  • Finding Subtle Traps Using Sequence Stratigraphic and Synsedimentary Tectonic Analysis, Almond Formation, Southwest Wyoming.
  • Hunting Fractures 5 Km Down: Integrated Reservoir Geology to Site Horizontal Wells, UPR/DOE Rock Island 4-H Well, Southwest Wyoming.
  • Sequence Stratigraphic Variability in Foreland Basins: An Example from the Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway of North America.
