Where in the world are we going to find the oil needed in the 21st Century?
Those attending the "Petroleum Provinces of the 21st Century" conference, set Jan. 12-15 in San Diego, will have a good idea as to what the next millennium holds for the most prospective areas on earth -- especially with the top-level papers to be presented and the opportunity to mix with the expert-level of the attendees themselves.
The program features invited-only papers with world-class presenters and has been in planning stages for about two years.
The conference is sponsored by the AAPG Foundation and is co-chaired by Marlan Downey, president-elect of AAPG, and Jack Threet, AAPG Foundation Trustee.
The conference is based on the model of the "Wallace E. Pratt Future Petroleum Provinces of the World" conference held in Phoenix in 1984, which resulted in the publication of AAPG Memoir 40. That conference was chaired by Michel T. Halbouty, who will serve as honorary chairman of what is being referred to informally as Pratt II.
The "21st Century Conference"also will produce a Memoir-caliber publication of the papers that will be sent to attendees upon its availability. A CD-ROM will be included with the book and an unedited compact disk of the papers to be presented will be available to attendees on-site.
With 24 geographic areas in the spotlight at the conference, special presentations on economic and professional issues are also included on the agenda.
The conference fee is $1,400 per person, $1,000 of which has been pledged by the AAPG Foundation to provide further support for the mid-career technology training center effort, and $400 going to defray conference expenses. The registration will include the meeting fee, the book to be published, a CD-ROM of the proceedings and other materials.
The conference will be held at the Sheraton Harbor Island Hotel.
Because of the nature of the conference, registrations are limited and will be open on a first-come, first-served basis for a limited time.
Registrants are urged to make their reservations as soon as possible to ensure their participation in this, the first scientific, professional earth science meeting of the new millennium.
