Troll Geopark in Stavanger, Norway: Celebrating the International Year of Planet Earth

A replica of the oil and gas Troll Field, from the Norwegian Sector of the North Sea, as seen at a depth of 2000 meters has been constructed over a large area at a scale of 1:500, outside the Oil Museum in Stavanger, Norway.

It is meant to be a portal of education and also entertainment for all kids and visitors, using the Geopark and all its elements to inform and visualise how the giant Troll Field looks like underground.

The landscape are build with sand and gravel over concrete floor, including risers, and “fault walls” as these appear in the reservoir.

The Troll Geopark also include science activities. The sedimentation basin, there a combination of flowing water and sand gives an understanding of the sedimentation processes. This is a very important element in outreaching geosciences to the young visitors and to allow them to understand how energy ressources occur in nature.

The entertainment part include: skating, climbing, sand volleyball, biking, grafitti, exhibitions, concerts, dans and education.
