Austrian Geological Society 100 Years (1907 - 2007)
Wolfgang Nachtmann Rohöl-Aufsuchungs AG (RAG), Vienna, Austria

The Austrian Geological Society (AGS) is a non-profit organisation with the objective to promote the science of geology, especially the geology of the Austrian Alps and the surrounding areas. AGS is a national society with three regional sections and 10 specialised subdivisions (one of them for petroleum geology). Membership is open to individuals interested in and related to earth sciences. Currently the Society counts some 715 active and student members, about 150 of them from outside of Austria.
The Austrian Geological Society is affiliated with AAPG since 1994. In 1997 the Society hosted the AAPG International Conference and Exhibition in Vienna „East Meets West“ which attracted 1756 national and international attendees.
This year, the Austrian Geological Society celebrates the 100th anniversary of its foundation. The official ceremonial act with invited talks, awards ceremony and a reception in the Vienna Natural History Museum is on November 23.

On this occasion also Volume 100 of the Austrian Journal of Earth Sciences (AJES), the Society’s annual bulletin since 2002, will be presented. Although petroleum geology is not the main topic in AJES petroleum and applied geology related papers are common as numerous petroleum geoscientists and companies among our readers and subscribers. All publications are in English and can be downloaded from the web for free.
Further, all efforts are made to complete scanning of volumes 1 to 94 of the "Mitteilungen der Österreichischen Geologischen Gesellschaft" (was the predecessor bulletin of AJES from 1907 to 2001) and make them electronically available by November 23.
