The CIMP Meeting 2006 will convene in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic and a traditional centre of palaeobotanical research, September 2 through September 6, 2006. The conference is opened to all persons interested in any aspect of the Palaeozoic palynology. The scientific program will include symposia, contributed papers, poster sessions, and meetings of working groups, associated with workshops. Pre- and post-conference field trips to the Barrandian Early Palaeozoic are planned as well.
Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is our most valuable historical city reserve. “Praga caput regni” has been inscribed in Prague’s coat of arms. Since the very beginning, Prague has always played an important role in the history of both the nation, country and Europe. Since the Middle Ages, Prague has been known as one of the most beautiful cities of the world, and has been attributed adjectives such as “golden”, “city of hundred spires”, “the crown of the world”, “a stone dream”. In 1992 the historical core of the city covering 866 hectares was listed in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Register.

Royal Geological and Mining Society of the Netherlands
This Society, founded in 1912, has presently some 800 members, mostly of Dutch nationality. It is a scientific association that also promotes the interests of Earth Sciences in the Netherlands. It publishes, together with the Geological Survey of the Netherlands, the internationally renowned quarterly Netherlands Journal of Geosciences (formerly Geologie en Mijnbouw) and a Newsletter. The Society awards the prestigious Van Waterschoot van der Gracht medal (an award for outstanding scientific achievement) and organises the annual Staring lecture, named after an eminent geologist from the earliest years of Dutch geology.

Most other activities take place in the various Circles that convene around themes of Petroleum Geology, Paleobiolology, Palynology, Mineralogy, Sedimentology, Engineering Geology and Geochemistry. There is also an active circle for female earth scientist professionals (GAIA) and various regional earth science associations.

The LMGMG is an AAPG affiliated society and has an active petroleum geological section (Petroleum Geologische Kring). Every third Wednesday of the month a meeting is held in the KIvI building, Prinsessegracht 23 in The Hague. Drinks are served from 17:00 to 18:00 during the social hour preceding the scientific meeting beginning at 18:00 hrs. Visiting guests from affiliated societies are welcome. The Association held its annual convention 2006 in Rheinfelden near Basel from June 17-19. Scientific lectures and excursions were attended by 114 members, both Swiss and international. Main topics were the geology of the southern Rhinegraben and Geothermal Deep Heat Mining in that area, projects that found a lot of interest.

The convention also elected a new board with the following officers:
Four board members without Portfolio:
  • Peter Lehner,
  • Jean-Pierre de Loriol,
  • Michael Suana and
  • Volkmar Puempin.

The 2007 Annual Convention will be held in Ortisei (Val Gardena, Italy) with the Geology of the Dolomites as the main theme. The lectures session will also primarily be devoted to the Geology of the Dolomites.

We welcome new members from the oil and gas industry both Swiss and International (about one third of our members are from various European countries).
