John Dolson, AAPG Vice President

John Dolson has been an AAPG member for 25 years. His experience is split evening between domestic U.S. exploration (Rockies, Alaska, Mid-Continent) and International (Egypt, World-wide New Ventures, Russia). He specializes in integrated exploration techniques, applied petrophysics and sequence stratigraphy. He has worked on numerous AAPG conferences, field trips and committees, but especially enjoys bringing young geoscientists into the profession through Student Chapter involvement. He has published over 60 papers and articles and holds 7 Best Paper awards, including two “Best of AAPG for SEG” awards. He also received AAPG’s Distinguished Public Service award for leadership roles with the nonprofit groups such as UNESCO-Egypt, the Friends of Dinosaur Ridge, Denver Earth Science Project and Denver Museum of Nature and Science which are dedicated to preserving and educating the public on geological issues. He is currently the Senior Exploration Advisor, for TNK-BP and works and lives in Moscow, Russia, where he is actively involved in exploration and training/development of Russian staff.

Vlastimila Dvorakova, Sec/Treasurer, European Region

Vlastimila was born and raised Moravia, Czech Republic. She earned her master’s degree at Charles University in applied geophysics in 1984. Vlastimila began her career as a geophysicist at the state company Geofyzika Brno. Later she joined Geogas a.s., which became Duke Engineering & Services and then later FRAMATOME ANP DE&S,a.s. She worked on projects to find new oil and gas reservoirs in the Carpathian Foredeep, involving seismic, structural geology, and tectonic interpretations. In addition, she applied her understanding of reservoir geology on the Underground Gas Storages in the Czech Republic. Vlastimila participated in many international projects for this company in Libya, USA, Canada and France. When the company decided to close the business in Europe, she was hired by the Czech Geological Survey in 2003.

Actively involved with AAPG since 1996; she served as General Vice Chairman of the AAPG European Region Conference held in Prague in October 2004. This was the first conference organized by the European Region and the first one in Central/Eastern Europe. The conference was a great success and was a good start for the establishment of the AAPG European Region. She helped increase the communication and cooperation within the region and AAPG headquarters from which the region will benefit from in the future. Her responsibility for general conference management, technical program as well as sponsorships brought together a great number of individuals, members of AAPG and professionals from many countries working together without frontiers and with great respect.

She has also organized the Czech part of Peter Rose’s Presidential tour of Europe in late 2005 and help established new AAPG contacts in Central and Eastern Europe.

Those who have known and worked with Vlastimila admire the manner in which she accepts responsibility, always discharges her duties and work assignments with great enthusiasm and on a timely basis. She has an affinity for recognizing talented and dedicated people and likes to work in an international community of professionals like the one AAPG offers.
