Athens Conference November 25-28, 2007

The European Region of AAPG is in the process of organizing a large international conference in Athens, Greece, in November 2007, covering the petroleum geology of the Circum-Mediterranean, Middle East and the Caspian. Also key areas and hot spots outside this region will be included.

The object is to cooperate with other AAPG regions and have a large exhibition of 1,000 to 2,000 participants at the conference. Participation from national and major oil companies is essential. The conference venue will be in the fantastic Megaron facilities in the centre of Athens.

The main slogan for the conference is: Challenge our myths.

Each co-chairman and speaker is encouraged to make their own interpretation of this slogan and incorporate it into presentations. By challenging myths there may w be rewards but also risks – as many of us has experienced in our work as geoscientists in the petroleum industry.

The conference should attract professionals from the various AAPG Regions because it will facilitate integration and transfer of knowledge. For the areas with special industry interest a majority of the talks will emphasis one or more of the following elements:

  1. Field case histories
  2. Exploration status and opportunities
  3. Challenge our myths

The carbonate conference at Mallorca in May 2006 where the European, North African and Middle East regions were involved served as a test for this type of conference where several AAPG regions makes a joint effort to create an extraordinary event.

The organizing committee is about to be established and companies interested in participating and influencing the program may contact:
