AAPG DataRom Detail –

  1. Exploratory Well File (CSDE), 1950-1989 – For more than 30 years, the AAPG Committee on Statistics of Drilling compiled scout data on wells that were drilled in an attempt to discover new reserves. This is the database that fueled the Annual statistical report issue of the AAPG Bulletin. More than 385,000 well records, citing API number, depth, age of deepest formation penetrated, field names, operator names, Lahee well classifications, and much more. This is a database of discovery wells and dry holes.
  2. Correlation of Stratigraphic Units of North America (COSUNA) – The Correlation of Stratigraphic Units of North America was initiated to produce a series of correlation wall charts, published by the AAPG in the early 1980s. This database allows the geologist to have a "quick look" for rock units in various areas of North America. Records include a lat/long location of the sample, a formal age determination, a lithologic description at the location, a correlation description, and formal reference information. More than 18,000 records in the USA are presented. Some location points are surface data; some are subsurface data.
  3. Geothermal Survey of North America (GSNA) – The Geothermal Survey of North America was a joint research program between AAPG and USGS conducted from 1969 to 1972 in order to compile a database from which a geothermal contour map of North America could be generated for distribution. This database includes more than 23,000 records from oil wells, water wells, mine surveys, etc. in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Each record contains latitude, longitude, depth, temperature, and more.

All Files from all three databases are presented in three formats: (1) original fixed-field format for mainframe, (2) delimited ASCII for spreadsheet or data manager applications, and (3) as a searchable DOS-based utility (Windows users must operate from a DOS prompt).
