Lecturers are sent to AAPG affiliated geological societies, geoscience departments, universities and colleges throughout North America. The AAPG Foundation also sponsors an intersociety lecturer with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
Abstracts and biographical data features the Distinguished Lecturers slated for the current fiscal year. Itineraries are posted as tours.
Please contact Lorry Oldefest in the Education Department of AAPG headquarters for more information about the Distinguished Lecture program.
When possible extra time is built into a lecturer's schedule for interaction. If you would like to request a lecturer, please contact your local university or organization.
AAPG affiliated geological societies, geoscience departments, universities and colleges throughout five international regions are included in the lecturer’s tour. Lecturers are unpaid volunteers and devote about three to six weeks to their international tour. These regions include: Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Middle East and Africa.
Periodically a letter is sent to five international regions announcing a lecturer's tour schedule. Interested societies or universities may use the Request Form included with the letter to arrange for a visit.
If you would like to request an International Lecturer, contact Lorry Oldefest in the Education Department of AAPG Headquarters.
The Distinguished Lecture Program Funding is provided by the AAPG Foundation.
However, host organizations are responsible for sharing tour costs to offset a portion of the travel expenses. North American fees are set in accordance with the size of the sponsoring organization.
Each sponsoring organization is responsible for local lodging, meals and local transportation while the lecturer is in their city. This is not to exceed two days unless other arrangements have been made. These hotel, meals and related travel expenses should be paid directly by the local organization. Expenses not paid by the participating organization will be billed with an applicable fee.
To ensure a successful visit, materials are provided for use as press releases and other advertising. Included are photographs as TIFF images for high resolution output, i.e. print and JPEG images for low resolution output, i.e. Web or emails.
Microsoft Word files as well as PDF (portable document format) files are also provided. These may be used for print, inclusion in brochures, press releases, etc. to assist you with informing the public about the lecturer you have scheduled. These files include the same biographical information provided on this site as well as abstracts of the topic on which your lecturer will present.
A link is provided which allows you to establish a direct link to this information for advertising on your website.
