Change your password whenever you like, and to whatever you like (minimum
6 characters).
Maintain your contact information, including your mailing and email
addresses, online without requiring an email or phone call.
Maintain your member biography to keep us up to date on what you are
currently doing in your professional life.
Buy books and materials, register for meetings and classes, pay dues,
and make foundation contributions online... all in the same easy "shopping
cart" and with one transaction on your credit card! (Or you can do it
in multiple steps if you need multiple credit card transactions).
Check the status of your orders as they move through processing at
AAPG.
Everything that you do on the Web is fully synchronized with what the AAPG
staff sees on our computer screens. If we make a change, it is instantly
displayed in your Members Only area... and if you make a change, it is instantly
available to us!
How do I change my password?
The ability to change passwords is one of the most-requested Web site
features for AAPG, and we are thrilled to now give you that capability!
To do so, click the word "Profile" at the top of this page or any page in
the Members Only area, and then click the button labeled "security."
If I forget my password, can I call up and get it from you?
Passwords in our database are encrypted, and unencrypting them is impossible
in any reasonable amount of time. However, you can visit
this page to reset your password, or call our membership department
to have them reset it for you (our phone number is in the heading at the
top of this page).
How do I pay my dues online?
Click the word "Home" at the top of this page or any page in the Members
Only area, and then click on the word "Dues."
When I try to pay my dues online, I can't get past the "Please review
your membership dues" page!
Make sure you are clicking
and not
to go to the next page. You only need to click
if you are itemizing your contributions.
If you are clicking the correct button, the problem is probably because of either personal firewall software, or a corporate firewall or router. The dues payment system uses what is known as a "302 redirect" to get you to the shopping cart; it tells your browser that it wants you to see page "B" instead of page "A" which you clicked on, with page "B" being the shopping cart and page "A" being the "Please review your membership dues" page. The 302 redirect is known as an "ICMP message," and these can be blocked by personal and corporate firewall software. If you are using a personal firewall, please allow ICMP messages (or temporarily disable the firewall) while you go through the checkout process; if you are on a corporate site, check with your IT department and find out whether ICMP messages in general or 302 redirect messages in particular are being blocked.
Here are the steps you would need to follow to make a $500 contribution,
with $400 going to the Halbouty Endowment Fund and $100 going to the general
fund:
Log in to the AAPG Members Only area.
Click on "Support the AAPG Foundation"
Type the amount (500) into the box next to "Contribution Amount".
If the check-box next to the words "Contribution Amount" is
not checked, click the box to check it.
Under "Allocate Your Contributions" select "General Fund" and "Halbouty
Endowment Fund" (you can select two different funds in Windows by holding
down the "Ctrl" button while you click on each), and click the "continue"
button (NOT the "add to basket" button yet!)
Now under "Allocate Your Contributions" under the "continue" button,
you should see entry boxes for each of the funds you have selected.
Type 100 into the "General Fund" box and 400 into the "Halbouty Endowment
Fund" box.
NOW click the "add to basket" button. From there fill in your credit
card information and you can complete the transaction.
You can make contributions to one or any number of funds using this method.
If your contribution amount is more than the total of the values you allocate,
the excess will be applied to the General Fund.
Why am I getting nonmember pricing in the bookstore/for events? I'm a member!
You'll need to sign in before putting items in your shopping cart,
and you will receive member pricing.
What happened to the magic "AAPG Bulletin Online" and "View Bulletin
Archives" buttons?
If you have access to these resources, the buttons are at the top of this
page (and every page within Members Only). Also, if your membership is ever suspended for nonpayment, you will have to make payment of dues before
your access to AAPG resources is available again.
Why can't I get logged into the Bulletin/Bulletin Archives?
If you have blocked cookies in your browser, make sure you allow them
for petris.com and datapages.com and you should be able to get in. If you are using Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall, click here for additional information about allowing the "Referrer Header" (this information is applicable to other Internet security software, such as the McAfee firewall products, as well).
I'm trying to update my email address and I keep getting an error message.
If you try to change your email address to something that is longer than 20 characters in length, you will see the following error message:
Error Executing Database Query. [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]String or binary data would be truncated.
The error occurred on line 11.
We are working on a fix for this problem, which does not occur for email addresses shorter than 20 characters. If you see this error message, please contact the membership department to have them make your change for you.
I'm already a member... why am I seeing this nonmember FAQ?
If you Log
In first with a member account, you will see the member version of this
FAQ. If your membership has been suspended for nonpayment of dues, you will also see this FAQ until payment is made. Please allow one business day after you make your payment online for your access to be reinstated.
I can't get logged in!
If you are an AAPG member, your login is your member number; include all digits but do not include any dashes or spaces. If you are an AAPG customer but not a member, please use the login and password information provided when you signed up to use this site. If you have forgotten your password, see "What if I have an account already and I've forgotten my password?" below.
If you are using Norton Personal Firewall, you might investigate your Javascript settings; it has been reported that setting NPF to block Javascript, or even prompt for whether to allow it for the site, can cause login problems with AAPG Members Only. Try turning off the Javascript blocking before you visit Members Only to see if that helps.
What can I do without logging in?
There are only a few things you can do before you register for your free
account: you can browse the bookstore or our lists of upcoming meetings
and courses, and you can begin the process of making a donation to the AAPG
Foundation. Before you make a purchase or donation, though, you'll need
to sign up for a free account.
Do I have to sign up?
If you are an AAPG member, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A FREE ACCOUNT. AAPG
members already have member accounts to use; contact the Membership Department
for help getting online. (Also see the question
and answer at the end of this list for more information about the change
in logins for members.) If you are not a member, you will need to "sign
up" by giving us some basic information before you are able to complete
a financial transaction with us. It's the same as buying something from
any online retailer; you give them your shipping information. Once you have
signed up and created a password, you can shop or register from that time
forward without having to give us your information again. Nonmember accounts
are totally free of charge!
What can I do after I sign up?
After you have created your free account, you can edit your customer information,
change your password, and check the status of any orders you have placed.
You can visit
this page to reset your password, or call our membership department
to have them reset it for you (our phone number is in the heading at the
top of this page). We cannot retrieve a forgotten password (they are encrypted
in our database), but we can reset it for you to whatever you like.
After I clicked on "Reset my password" on the login Web page, you sent
me an email that said "Click on the link below to reset your login and password."
When I clicked on the "Reset my password" link in the email, I got a "The
page cannot be found" message!
Different email software handles links differently; the link can in some
cases be so long that in some email programs it is split into two lines.
If that is the case, you will need to manually copy both halves of the link
into the Address bar of your browser, or call our membership department
to have them change your password to whatever you would like it to be (our
phone number is in the heading at the top of this page).
I paid my dues online, but my access to [Member Directory, Bulletin online,
Bulletin Archive online] has not been restored!
This is only an issue for individuals who have let their membership lapse because of nonpayment of dues. If you are reactivating a "Suspended" account (dues less than one year overdue), please allow one business day for your member access to be restored. If you have let your membership lapse more than one year, you must go through a reinstatement process before you can be reactivated as a member.

and you will receive member pricing.
What are the benefits to me of becoming an AAPG member?
We do not currently have an online membership application form, but you
can download the form
in PDF format and apply by mail. Plans for an online form are in the
works, but a date for availability has not been set, so don't wait! Apply
today!
When we switched to our new system, because of the extra information available
in the Members Only area (dues payment history, bookstore purchase history,
ability to change contact information, etc.) it was decided that we should
change our login scheme to increase security. Each member was assigned a
randomized password, which was sent to him in email, and all logins were
reset to member numbers, not including the dashes which appear on most AAPG
publications. So, if your member number was 12345-6, your login is now 123456.
You can change your password at will once you are logged in; log in and
see the member version of this FAQ for more details.
