Journal of Natural Resources Research is an international journal of the IAMG and AAPG/EMD devoted to promoting quantitative approaches to mineral resource exploration, assessment, extraction and utilization. Sponsored by the International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG) and co-sponsored by the Energy Mineral Division of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG/EMD). Covers a wide span of topics related to natural resources of all kinds; includes assessment strategies for exploration, evaluation, risk. This journal publishes quantitative studies of natural (mainly but not limited to mineral) resources exploration, evaluation and exploitation, including environmental and risk-related aspects. Typical articles use geoscientific data or analyses to assess, test, or compare resource-related aspects. NRR covers a wide variety of resources including minerals, coal, hydrocarbon, geothermal, water, and vegetation. Case studies are welcome.

Volume 24, number 4. Unconventional Energy Resources: 2015 Review. Included herein are reviews of research activities in the U.S., Canada, and other regions of the world related to coal, coalbed methane, oil shale, U and Th deposits and associated rare earth elements of industrial interest, geothermal, gas shale and liquids, tight gas sands, gas hydrates, and bitumen and heavy oil. An analysis of energy economics and technology as related to unconventional resource commodities also is included.
