German Bayona is a researcher/consultant/academic, and director of ARES since 2003. He has participated in research projects for petroleum exploration in the USA, Panama, Venezuela, Argentina and Colombia, mainly in basin analysis. His interests and research include: Understanding the relationship between mountain-building and basin-filling processes in tropical settings, Stratigraphy and petrology of sedimentary and volcanic systems, Influence of basement structures in sedimentary-basin evolution, thrust-belt geometry and kinematics, and paleomagnetism applied in tectonic, structural and stratigraphic analyses. German has his PhD from the University of Kentucky, Master's degree from New Mexico State University and BS from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He had Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and has published widely on his research.
