With the proliferation of technical and engineering specialized sub-disciplines, it is entirely possible for a technical professional to be working on oilfields in the energy industry without ever having seen or touched the rocks that form source beds and reservoirs. This talk covers some of the basic important lessons of field work and geologic analogs with experience from having designed field trips for K-12 education, community stakeholders, and non-geologic professionals.
