Abstract: Still "Life in the Old Dog", Examples of Field Rejuvenation

Examples of field rejuvenation from Piper and Alwyn fields in the North Sea.

The premise of this presentation is that where there is a proven petroleum system with established production and facilities, then there is ample opportunity to extend the life of those facilities and improve productivity by looking for additional exploration and production potential. Two examples of rejuvenation are presented. One example is for drilling deeper to find and produce additional reserves in the Late Triassic sands of the Alwyn field. The other example is for the redevelopment of the Late Jurassic sands of the Piper field following the Piper Alpha disaster, which demonstrates improved recovery efficiency. Both examples illustrate how the field life was extended and productivity improved by optimization of well placement and completion.
