ICE SC 2 | The Global Petroleum Industry in the Next Decade: an Overview to the Science, Technology and AAPG
American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)
Saturday, 14 October 2017, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. | London, England
Who Should Attend
Students and Young Professionals who are interested in working in the petroleum industry.
Objectives
The continued restructuring and rapid evolution of the global petroleum industry have transformed the expectations for future employment. This course introduces the science and technology that geologists will use during the next decade. Concepts for both conventional and unconventional plays are will be reviewed and shown how they can be applied to petroleum basins globally. Several interpretation exercises will be done to emphasize the key points for each theme.
Course Content
The recognition of 24 super–basins, where the vast majority of petroleum has been produced, is reviewed in terms of the most recent exploration and development trends. Four main themes are emphasized.
- Rejuvenation of old fields: conventional (and now unconventional) accumulations.
- The abrupt resurgence in the development of tight rocks during the past year: tight sandstones, shale-gas and shale-oil reservoirs in US, Canada, and other basins.
- Frontier exploration in conventional accumulations: emphasis is on the global deep-water play.
- The future: assumptions (supply and demand), technology, global trends, economics, and reasons for membership in AAPG.
