• 11397 Coral Reef Ecosystems on a Warming Planet: Lessons from Yellowstone Hot Springs Coordinated Geobiology research on Yellowstone hot springs and Caribbean and Pacific coral reef ecosystems have identified a suite of universally active microbe-water-rock interactions that fundamentally shape these ecosystems. While at first glance these seem to be wildly different and unrelated environments, close examination reveals a host of striking similarities and scientific parallels. • 11398 Human Kidney Stone Formation: Insights from Yellowstone, Roman Aqueducts and the Deep Microbial Biosphere Human kidney stone formation (nephrolithiasis) presently affects 12% of men and 5% of women in the United States, generating an estimated annual healthcare cost of $2.1 billion. A first of its kind analysis is being untaken of the integrated role of human microorganisms (the microbiome) in influencing the dynamics of human disease-related mineral precipitation (biomineralization). Direct comparison and inference is being drawn from geobiological studies of microbe-water-rock interactions in Yellowstone hot-springs, Caribbean coral reefs and Roman aqueducts. • 11396 State-of-the-Art Oil Field Geobiology: Implications for Exploration and Production The enhanced production of unconventional hydrocarbons, the mitigation of biosourcing, and the advancement of carbon capture and storage, now combine to create significant financial and technical challenges to the global oil and gas industry.  Emerging and especially promising Geobiology approaches to these issues include utilization of the physical and biogeochemical activity of microorganisms that inhabit deeply buried hydrocarbon reservoirs.
