AAPG, EAGE and SEG will hold a joint symposium on the topic of Digitalization in Geosciences from October 21-24, 2024 in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.

The primary objective of this symposium is to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration among professionals who are engaged in implementing digitalization technologies and machine learning algorithms  in geoscience applications. The joint effort of EAGE, AAPG and SEG societies aims to set up industry standards on reproducible AI and distribute key solutions on: data standardization and optimization, data quality, storage and model accuracy assessment, performance profiling, code optimizations, pervasive real-time and remote monitoring and more for advanced prototyping and delivery.

The purpose of the Committee is to preserve and promote the history and heritage of the evolution of geological concepts and technology used in the search for oil and gas worldwide, and the men and women who are responsible for this evolution. The committee endeavors to do this by: Facilitating presentations and posters at AAPG conferences. Soliciting and editing papers for publication in the AAPG Explorer and other publications. Facilitating the knowledge of and access to existing key publications. Building and fostering relationships with other key organizations, such as museums and societies, with a common vision. Posting information on our AAPG webpage to facilitate a greater knowledge and appreciation of our history and heritage. Coordinating and participating in the construction of special exhibits. Honoring mem and women who have made pioneering contributions to the concepts and technology of our profession. The goals of the committee are: For AAPG membership to gain a better appreciation of our personal, technical, and institutional heritage in order to have higher collective pride and self-esteem. For AAPG Members to better find petroleum in the future by having a better appreciation of how it has been found in the past. To strengthen the AAPG by attracting students and retaining young professionals by instilling in them a better appreciation of our history and heritage. To give other sectors of our industry and society in general a better understanding of the realities and challenges of exploring for petroleum.

The function of the Distinguished Lecture Committee is to select lecturers and instructors speaking on important and timely geoscientific topics that provide knowledge transfer between the Association, affiliated societies, and academia and serve the educational needs of its members by providing outstanding lectures. To reach these goals the Distinguished Lecture Committee identifies topics that support science-based business decisions; showcases the state-of-the-art technology and concepts utilized in the oil and gas industry to academia; works with the Regions in developing a regional program of distinguished lectures; encourages lecturers to develop their presentations into proposals for Special Publications or into manuscripts to be submitted to the Bulletin; works with the Education Committee in encouraging lecturers to develop their presentations into workshops; works with other professional societies, such as SPE, SPWLA, SEG, and EAGE, in sponsoring inter-society distinguished lecturers.
