Student and Faculty Lounge

Date:
Monday, 27 October – Wednesday, 29 October
Time:
During Exhibition Hours
Fee:
Included with conference registration
students

Students and faculty members, here’s something that’s guaranteed to help you enjoy your Cape Town experience even more: Special complimentary refreshments are provided to you each day in your own specially designated Student and Faculty Lounge.

This is a great place to meet with fellow students, to catch your breath, to develop career contacts with industry professionals and perhaps to start lifelong friendships – all while enjoying some snacks and drinks.

The price is right (you can’t beat complimentary, right?) and the career opportunities may be even better. So show your prospective employers you have good taste and know a good deal when you see one. This is one “lounge” that won't put you to sleep.

Students Reception

Date:
Monday, 27 October
Time:
19:00 – 20:00
Fee:
Included with conference registration

Students, this one is strictly for you!

There will be food, drink, networking and even a surprise or two that will be yours to enjoy at this year’s Student Reception. All registered students and faculty are invited to attend the event, where you’ll be greeted by AAPG and GSSA leaders plus officials from the Students Reception sponsor.

It’s a great opportunity to join AAPG; to learn about membership benefits; to learn about benefits of the student chapter program; to network while enjoying some terrific food and drink.

The top poster will be recognized with the Ozan Sungurlu Memorial Award for the Best International student Poster along with a certificate and monetary award. The top oral presentation will be recognized with the Carlos Walter M. Campos Memorial Award for Best International Student Paper along with a plaque and monetary award.

And besides that, it’s a great opportunity to have some fun. Don’t miss out!

Conference Volunteers Needed

The ability to create a positive and smooth-flowing conference is greatly enhanced by the participation of a strong pool of volunteers. Please consider contributing to the success of this year’s conference.

We need volunteers in the following areas:

  • Technical Sessions
  • Posters
  • Registration
  • Opening Ceremony
  • Judge’s Room

Volunteer for at least four hours and receive:

  • ZAR 180 for every four hours worked
  • Attendee amenity
  • Program Book
  • CD-ROM of Abstracts

By registering online you can select the day(s) and time(s) you are available, as well as the location(s) you prefer. If you are unable to register online, select “I want to be a student volunteer” on your completed registration form and you will be contacted for your preferences. To receive benefits, volunteers must be either current students or employees in the industry who are recent (2006-08) graduates.
