The trip will visit the Grootegeluk colliery, a large opencast mine in the Limpopo Province. It produces more than 17 million tonnes of coal per year and feeds Matimba, the largest dry-cooled coal power station in the world. Grootegeluk is also South Africa’s lowest-cost coal producer and has the biggest coal beneficiation capacity in the world.
