This field trip examines the outstandingly well-exposed slope to basin floor fan systems in the Laingsburg Karoo subbasin. Large-scale physical stratigraphy of moderately to highly confined channelized fan systems and the hierarchy in stacking patterns forms the key aspects of this trip. Variability in filling styles of the highly confined slope systems, erosion at sequence boundaries, overbank stratigraphy, levee development, deep incisions, etc., will be examined at a variety of outstanding outcrop localities in the Laingsburg area.

Please note that the Geological and Social Day Trips may be of interest to guests.
