Guidebook for Delegates
This Guidebook includes guidance and reference to source documents such as the AAPG Constitution and Bylaws, so Delegates can relate to the source of their duties, authority granted by the Bylaws and formal “rules” of the Association. It particularly lists the actual responsibilities Delegates have per the Bylaws. This list may be more extensive than many realize!
Sharie Sartain’s work this past year as ad hoc committee chair to create this Guidebook, has included communicating with Delegates globally to see how they really do their work in practice. We hope the Guidebook will bring some best practices and consistency to our processes.
In mid 2011, the AAPG Executive Committee (the EC) made a number of changes to the membership application process, notably publishing the names of applicants and sponsors for Active Membership online instead of waiting for the next print edition of the Explorer. At the Annual Meeting of the House in Long Beach, Delegates approved the “Membership Simplification” Bylaws amendment which changed parts of the AAPG membership “scheme” and terminology. These changes have been incorporated in the Guidebook.
I believe several affiliated societies have implemented changes this past year, for example, the Houston Geological Society Delegates have adopted a “Fast Track” approval process to speed up their handling of applications.
I hope you find this Guidebook useful. It has been reviewed by the House Leadership, House Committee Chairs, Executive Committee and Tulsa Member Services Department, but I’m sure it will evolve and improve with your help as we move forward.
