The Resolutions Committee of the HoD has been busy. Four (4) resolutions were approved by the Executive Committee (EC) and passed to the Resolutions Committee for review. The resolutions are: 1) the affiliation of the Ghana Institution of Geoscientists with AAPG, 2) the affiliation of the Myanmar Geosciences Society with AAPG, 3) the transfer of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan from the Asia/Pacific Region to the European Region, and 4) the establishment of a new technical division to be known as the “Petroleum Structure and Geomechanics Division.” The Resolutions Committee met and discussed the four resolutions and concluded that the resolutions could be presented to the HoD at the annual meeting in Pittsburgh.
The committee contacted two (2) affiliated societies, the Geological Society of Iowa (GSI) and the Nebraska Geological Society (NGS). These two societies haven’t sent a delegate to the HoD meeting for several years. The GSI has been dissolved. I’m waiting for the NGS to respond, and I’ll report on their response at the HoD meeting in May.
