Constitution & Bylaws
The Constitution and Bylaws Committee has had several spirited meetings so far this year. Our job is to prepare amendments to Constitution and Bylaws for consideration by the HoD at the annual meetings. We also debate the merits of these changes so that we can make a recommendation on the proposed changes at the annual meeting. The changes that are forwarded to our committee are often controversial, and our conference calls often exceed the one-hour time limit we try to adhere to. I offer my sincere appreciation to this year’s committee members for their patience, as well as their thoughtful discussions of a diverse set of proposals this year. This year, the following folks have served on the committee: David Entzminger (Vice Chair), John Brooks, John Hogg, John Jordan, Terry O’Hare, and Margaret Anne Rogers.
Despite discussion of several controversial issues this year, at this time only one amendment is being forwarded to the House at this year’s annual meeting. That amendment is a housekeeping issue to bring the Bylaws in line with the procedures that the AAPG office is following for dues payments. The amendment basically does away with the late payment penalty that the office is not charging, and allows the office to notify members by e-mail when their dues are due. Currently the office sends out an e-mail and then follows it with a snail mail notification. The office envisions no changes to this procedure, but would like the option of not doing the expensive snail mail for those who have already paid their dues after the e-mail notification. The proposed amendment reads as follows: deletions | additions
