House Long Service Award

Edward D. Dolly

Edward D. Dolly, petroleum geologist and explorationist, has been a member of AAPG since 1965. Ed has served at varying times as member or chair of twelve committees. He is currently Chairman of the 100th Anniversary of AAPG Committee, preparing for AAPG’s centennial celebration in 2017.

Ed has represented the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists in the House of Delegates for 30 years. He served as Chairman-Elect and Chairman of the HoD, represented the HoD on the Executive Committee, and has been both HoD representative and Rocky Mountain Section representative to the Advisory Council. His many contributions were recognized by the association with the Distinguished Service to AAPG, Honorary Member of AAPG, and Honorary Member of the House of Delegates.

Ed grew up in Illinois, but has spent most of his adult life in Colorado. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from the University of Illinois and holds both masters and doctorate degrees from the University of Oklahoma.

Spanning a period of over 40 exciting and rewarding years, Ed’s career began with Shell Oil Company in Denver. He subsequently worked for Trend Exploration Ltd. and its successor, Filon Exploration Corporation; as an independent; for James Energy Management; for Consolidated Oil and Gas; for Anschutz Exploration Corporation; and for The Houston Exploration Company. Ed is now semi-retired, devoting more of his time to searching for ancestors than for oil and gas.

His mentors, Dan Busch and Norm Foster, impressed upon Ed the importance of active participation in professional societies. He took their advice.

In addition to the personal satisfaction derived from giving something of himself to the organizations representing members of his profession, as well as making a contribution to the profession itself, Ed considers his true reward for the time and effort expended on behalf of the RMAG, the RMS and the AAPG to be the friends he has made among his colleagues in each group. Many are fellow delegates.

Ed Dolly is dedicated to advancing the goals of the AAPG. Participating as a delegate has provided an opportunity to do so.
