Young Professionals as Delegates to the House of Delegates
Last year I asked AAPG Headquarters to identify all the Young Professionals (AAPG members born in or after 1970) that are Delegates. To my surprise, we found that there are only seven Young Professional members currently serving among the nearly 300 total Delegates on a worldwide basis. Stated another way, we only have seven Delegates that are 41 years of age, or younger.
In an effort to involve more Young Professionals (YPs) at a leadership level, I would ask each of you to talk to any YP that you know, or that work in your organization, to see if they might be interested in being a candidate for election to the HoD. The experience can be rewarding in terms of: networking with all kinds of members of the profession; evaluating proposed changes to the AAPG Constitution and Bylaws, or the HoD Rules and Procedures; attending the Annual Convention and Exhibition and/or the International Convention and Exhibition; and evaluating requested applications for membership at various levels. The obligations are minimal and include: serving for a three-year term; and attending regularly scheduled (monthly?) local Delegate meetings, if necessary, and if circumstances permit.
Please consider this request as an effort to get more YPs involved in the leadership matters of the Association. We can use their help; we need their help. And, please let me know the results of your efforts. Questions and comments are also welcome.
