Getting the Word Out - Keeping Everyone Informed
It is with a sense of great honor and pride that I have served as your Secretary/Editor for the 2010-11 year. My tenure was very rewarding and gratifying with one exception; it hastily ended. Where did the time go? My parents always instilled the values of service and respect to others. “Get involved and make a difference,” they said, and this encouragement has always inspired and motivated me. For the duration of my term, I have strived to contribute to and achieve positive change and, hopefully, this was accomplished.
This final 4th edition of The Delegates’ Voice for the 2010-11 year fulfills one of our goals - openness. The newsletter continues to keep the delegates, along with the general membership, informed on all current news, information, bylaw changes and accomplishments. Electronic newsletters were able to keep everyone current and well-informed, no matter where they were located globally, on all issues, activities and affairs of the House. The minutes of the 2011 Annual Meeting were approved by the Minutes Committee and are included in this Newsletter. This keeps all members abreast of House decisions and business undertaken during the HoD meeting.
Houston proved again to be a wonderful host city. Over 8,400 plus attendees registered for the convention. Our HoD Annual Meeting was also very well attended; only 5% of the eligible delegates were absent. Although there were differences of opinions on proposed amendment changes, delegates were able to express their views, sentiments and ideas in a civil manner. At the end of the day, through the democratic process, conclusions were reached, voting occurred and changes to the AAPG bylaws were adopted with the best interests of the entire membership taken into account.
The various committees and their chairs worked diligently with the elected officers throughout the year on behalf of the House and the entire membership. The culmination of these efforts resulted in a very successful meeting. Our Chair, David Hawk, worked tirelessly to shepherd the various issues through the committees in a timely manner to ensure that they came before the House for consideration. All of the presenters did a fantastic job addressing the delegates on various issues. Please join me in congratulating everyone who worked so tirelessly and meticulously on your behalf to address the tough topics and subjects and bring about change that keeps AAPG updated and progressive on all issues.
On July 1, our Chair-Elect, Jeff Lund, will assume office as Chair of the House and with it all its responsibilities. We wish him and his newly elected leadership team; Randy Ray, Chair-Elect and David Cook, Secretary/Editor, along with his committees our very best for a successful and productive term. Everyone is encouraged to lend your support and volunteer your service to aid him in the challenging tasks ahead.
A special thank you is extended to everyone for their support by writing their articles and quickly submitting them so that the newsletters could be completed in a timely manner. Express gratitude to the other members of the Newsletter Committee; Rob Diedrich, David Hawk and Jeff Lund and special recognition to the AAPG staff; Regina Gill, Janet Brister and Richard Brown. Best wishes to my successor, with whom I will work with to ensure a smooth transition.
During the last year, I had the opportunity to meet and work with many wonderful people. I thank all of you for electing me to this position. It has been my great pleasure to serve you.
