HOD OFFICER CANDIDATES
Jeffrey W. Lund
Executive VP: Corridor & Associates, Houston, Texas
Born: 1947, Jamestown, New York
I would like to thank the HoD Nominating Committee for this honor and look forward to the opportunity to serve AAPG as Chair-Elect and Chair of the House of Delegates. AAPG has been critical to my professional career and I hope to continue making contributions to its success.
When I look back on my AAPG career I cite several formative experiences which have been critical to my view of AAPG and its role in our profession:
- Chairing the 2002 Annual Convention and working with AAPG Members ranging in age from Mike Halbouty to young NeoGeos
- Serving on the Advisory Council during the time the AAPG Strategic Plan was created
- Serving in leadership roles on the AAPG Membership Committee
- Serving in support roles with AAPG’s International Pavilion and APPEX London and the resulting exposure to members globally
Our profession is unique in the dedication of its members to their science and towards each other. We share a basic appreciation of nature and the spirit of exploration that binds us into a fraternity (perhaps a sorority) unlike others. Geoscientists never retire from their love of the science and young people seem to know when they have found their true calling. AAPG needs to be there for all.
I believe AAPG is on track to become “indispensible to all professionals in the energy-related geosciences worldwide”. My goal is to continue to be part of the leadership team achieving that envisioned future. The Association has some challenges, but they can be addressed successfully if we all work together and remember what we have in common is the appreciation of, and desire to understand, the earth. Focusing on the scientific content of our profession brings out the best in all of us.
The processes of the AAPG House of Delegates and the participation of the HoD Chair on the AAPG Executive Committee are elements of AAPG governance I take seriously. I will work to the best of my ability to move our Association forward in pursuit of its strategic goals to the benefit of the worldwide membership.
