HOD OFFICER CANDIDATES
Patrick J. Gooding
Research Geologist IV/Manager
Kentucky Geological Survey, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY
Born: 1951, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago
I am deeply honored to be nominated as a candidate for the position of Secretary/Editor for the AAPG House of Delegates. Through each organization that I have been associated with, I have always found a greater calling to serve others through my volunteerism. As an officer, I will be afforded the opportunity to accomplish more and achieve greater success in attaining the goals of the organization rather than just talking about them. It will afford me the opportunity to accurately communicate the business of the HoD directly to you, the delegates. I have been a member of AAPG for over 27 years, joining while still a graduate student. I am privileged to represent AAPG members and my own society as a delegate for over ten years. Last year, I was humbled and honored to have received the 2008 Distinguished Member of the House Award. If elected to the position, I will serve the House with much enthusiasm, passion, and dedication and will execute the duties of the position with pride and professionalism. For five years, I have served as the Chair of the Credentials Committee in the House. This position allowed me the privilege of meeting most of the delegates and I have gained a better understanding of the workings of the House of Delegates. For the last three years, I have also served as Chairman of the AAPG Preservation of Geoscience Data Committee and I have been a member of the GeoTour Committee. Working on these committees has given me invaluable experience and insight. This knowledge will enable me to serve you more effectively. I have also held several leadership positions in a number of organizations, including professional, civic, and educational areas. I have used my leadership skills and strengths to accomplish greater success in each organization that I have been associated with. World events have placed unprecedented demands on our organization and this requires strong leadership. I would deeply appreciate your consideration for the office of Secretary/Editor and the privilege of continuing to serve AAPG.
