Letter from the Chair-Elect

David Hawk, HOD Chair-Elect

Opportunities for Member Involvement in the House of Delegates Deliberations

David Hawk

Chair-Elect

Every active member of AAPG has several avenues through which they can impact and affect the governance of their association. Each member, on their own, or through a majority action/request of their Affiliated Society, and/or Section/Region and their Section Advisory Council representative can offer proposed changes to the Bylaws and/or the Constitution and/or the Rules and Procedures.

Every suggestion will be forwarded to the appropriate House of Delegates Committee. The committee chairperson and members will review the idea or proposal and advise the chairperson of the HoD of their finding of relevance, need, and how it might be applied if passed by the HoD. If there is concurrence that the proposal should go forward, the chairman of the HoD will bring it to the attention of the Executive Committee. They, in turn, will advise the HoD Committee of their preference (including alternative language). The HoD Committee can accept or reject the Executive Committee recommendation, provide their own changes, or drop the proposal. If accepted it will be provided to the HoD at the Annual Meeting for their deliberation and ultimate acceptance or rejection. In any event, it is incumbent on the HoD Committee chair to thank and advise the member who suggested the change of the analysis and discussions that took place and the outcome of that consideration relative to passing the change forward through the protocol steps.

Suggestions for governmental changes from a person whose membership classification is other than Active will also receive due consideration when forwarded to the appropriate HoD committee. A similar process to that described above will be followed though an Active member will ultimately be needed to sponsor the proposal.

Any member of any classification may ask, at any time, for a clarification of the Bylaws/Constitution and/or the Rules/Procedures of the Association. Any member with concerns or questions is encouraged to seek a resolution and answers to those issues. The HoD seeks earnestly to have a very open and transparent process for hearing and acting upon our fellow member’s concerns.
