Jean Hsieh , PresidentThe Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG) was established more than 30 years ago. The organization was formed to encourage the participation of women in the geosciences; provide a means to exchange educational, technical and professional information; and enhance the professional growth and advancement of women in the geosciences.
As an international organization, AWG’s mission is to promote the professional development of its members, to provide geoscience outreach to girls of all ages, and to encourage women to become geoscientists. AWG’s programs include several scholarships and awards, geologic field trips, and our distinguished lecturer series.
Membership is open to anyone who is interested in the geosciences and supports AWG’s goals. Our members include, but are not limited to: professional women and men from industry, government, museums, academia and K-12 teachers; students; and retirees. Several corporations and educational institutions hold membership in AWG and provide support through advertising, or program funding.
Our diverse interests and expertise cover the entire spectrum of geoscience disciplines and career paths, providing excellent networking and mentoring opportunities. Our membership is brought together by a common love of earth science and the desire to ensure rewarding opportunities for women in the geosciences.
