Southwest Section
The Southwest Section has a thriving membership located from Dallas, Texas and west to Midland, Texas and Roswell, New Mexico.We just celebrated our Golden Anniversary Convention in February hosted by the Abilene Geological Society. Our upcoming convention will be hosted by the West Texas Geological Society on April 26-29, 2009 in Midland, Texas. Not only are quality talks presented, but a field trip and a free short course are also available for attendees. In addition to the free short course offered at our annual meeting, we will continue our tradition of providing our membership with a free fall short course. It has been so successful that we now offer it in two locations. We also provide up to nine scholarships a year to students or theses in our area. The Southwest Section is working hard on the IBA competition to put forward another winning team like Texas Christian University.
