The AAPG Feature Staffers
Bryan Haws
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to introduce myself to you. I am Bryan Haws, a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in the State of Oklahoma. I have been an AAPG employee since September 2000, and was named manager of the Accounting Department last March.
In addition to the normal, everyday duties of an accounting department, I am also responsible for AAPG's Human Resources administration functions, as well as helping the business director with:
- Implementation of the Strategic Plan
- Compilation of the annual Budget
- Support for AAPG departments and Divisons
- Support and involvement for various committees
- Special projects, etc.
Yes, we keep busy!
My goal is to find ways to continually improve our operating efficiency and improve the quality and the presentation of our financial information. As many of you know, AAPG embarked on a massive undertaking for this very reason in July 2004, by changing our computer systems. Indeed this change provided some interesting challenges to our traditional approach to doing business, but we are very optimistic that the shift will pay big dividends to our membership for a long time. In fact, we've already started to see this come true.
One of my absolute favorite AAPG duties, accounting or otherwise, is working at the "Welcome Desk" at our international meetings. Why? This has been the best opportunity for me to meet our members on a personal basis. We love providing support for AAPG in our office setting, but at the meetings, I am constantly reminded of what an interesting group of people we have in our membership. Likewise, I appreciate hearing your feedback on what we can do to make AAPG better (especially from an accounting perspective, of course).
Please know that the accounting department works very hard to be good stewards of your finances and take great efforts to ensure that AAPG's assets are safeguarded, as best as we can. Jody, Dianna, Pat, Veta, Sandy and Deborah, all long term employees, show their commitment each and every day.
I am proud of their efforts, and hope you are, too!
Outside of the office, I am married to a beautiful 1st grade teacher (looks and brains -- how did she ever end up with me? False Advertising, of course!), and we have two wonderful children. Abbie (the 5 year old) is my "Sweet Princess," and Blake (the 9 month old) is my "Buddy Boy;" we have lots of fun together. This is a magical time as a parent that I am cherishing before the "teen decade" arrives! I also spend time (either by phone each night or by occasional visits) with my Grandparents, who are both in their 90s. My family is my life (not accounting, can you imagine that?), and I enjoy every moment I get to share with them.
