The Ad-Hoc Committee on Executive Session was composed of the following individuals:
- John Hogg - Chairman, Canada Region Calgary Canada
- Jeff Lund - Advisory Coundil, Gulf Coast, Houston TX
- Clint Moore - Executive Committee, Gulf Coast - Houston TX
- Ed Heath - Member, Rocky Mt. - Durango, CO
- Terry O'Hare -- Member, Southwest - Dallas TX
- HoD Chair Candidate: Alan DeGood , MidContinent, Wichita KS
- HoD Chair Candidate: Larry Jones, Gulf Coast, Houston TX
The purpose of the Ad-Hoc Committee was to review the past history and prevent potential character maligning during discussions of ‘suitability' for office or Awards by either the Executive Committee or the Advisory Council. The Committee consisted of members from the Advisory Council, Executive Committee, HOD and the two HOD Chairman Candidates.
The committee began with general discussion and considered all perspectives on this issue, including the past amendment proposed by committee member Clint Moore, an alternative amendment and finally a change in the procedures used by the Advisory Council to ensure that there a fair process for all members to follow and know that all members are being treated in a fair and professional manner.
We will request of the HOD Chairman a straw vote of the following question when we present our report in Calgary.
The Ad-Hoc Committee on Executive Session would like to unanimously move that the following be taken under advisement and presented to the Advisory Council and Executive Committee concerning future Executive Session meetings for Honours and Awards and Nominations:
Executive Session shall include an external Parliamentarian, either one used by AAPG like Mary, or one from any other state where the Advisory Council is meeting, at both the H&A and Nominations Committee (to a maximum cost of ~$2,000). The job of the Parliamentarian would be to ensure that the Constitution and Bylaws of the organization are upheld when discussions concerning the qualifications of the potential honoree or nominee. Any discussion that is not acceptable will be stopped and the member admonished for his or her breach of the C&BL of AAPG. We look forward to the discussion of this item in Calgary on the 19th of June, as an amendment to the Advisory Council Executive Committee Process.
On behalf of the Committee
John Hogg
