Resolutions

By Don Clarke, Chair

I have enjoyed my two years as Chairman of the House of Delegates Resolutions Committee. Last year we had the National Association of Black Geologists and Geophysicists and the Association for Women Geoscientists affiliate with AAPG as Associated Societies. The French Association of Petroleum Technicians, Atyrau Petroleum Geologists Association and the Sociedad Geologica del Peru joined AAPG as Affiliated Societies. This year we had no new entries. The new additions clearly demonstrate how AAPG has changed over the years. Roughly one half of the AAPG members either live overseas or work on international projects. AAPG is truly international.

Because the makeup of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists has changed, so must the organization of AAPG change. AAPG exists to serve its members and to do so means the members must make their needs and wants known to AAPG. This is done through society affiliations, letters and face-to-face communication. The House of Delegates provides an excellent forum for meeting and working with leaders from all of the affiliated societies. Each member is a local leader who brings the interests and needs of their Society to the House. Through personal interaction, committee work and House meetings these ideas are brought into the AAPG. By no means is the House the only way to bring in ideas. But it does offer the membership a chance to work with the Associations’ activists to create a better and stronger AAPG.

This concludes my chairmanship of the Resolutions Committee and I wish to thank all of the members of my committee for their work and support these last two years. The members include Bill Haskett, Vice-Chair, Lee Avary, Paul Babcock, Margaret Ann Rogers, and Sharie Sartain. I would also like to thank the many others who helped the committee by explaining our activities to the other delegates. We made great progress.

Additionally I would like to thank Terry Hollrah, Past-Chairman, and George Eynon, Chairman of the AAPG House of Delegates for their guidance. I look forward to working with Valary Schulz, Chairman-Elect as she moves on to become Chairman and I become Chairman-Elect of AAPG House of Delegates. Please feel free to contact either Valary or me with any ideas that you may have because we are both excited to serve AAPG and you. We also have vacancies on many of the committees that need filling. Please consider serving on one of the eight committees. Let’s work together to make AAPG a stronger association!
