by Deborah Sacrey,
Chair
This
year the Rules and Procedures Committee members are:
Deborah
Sacrey: Gulf Coast Section
Mark Longman: Rocky Mountain Section
Mike Allison: Mid-Continent Section
Debra Nishida: Canada Region
There
are four issues that the Committee is undertaking to resolve:
- To
evaluate the possible need to increase the size of the Resolutions,
Rules & Procedures and Constitution & Bylaws Committees
from four members to five members. This would allow better representation
on these very important committees.
- To
consider the need to continue the Future of Earth Scientists
Committee. This committee has had moments of inactivity in recent
years. Would it be prudent to eliminate it all together and
recall on an "as needed" basis, or make it an ad hoc status?
- To
consider setting a deadline of September 30th (end of first
quarter) for submission of the slate of HoD officer candidates
by the Nomination and Election Committee. This would enable
the candidates' data to be collected for publication in a timely
manner. Along with this would be the consideration of having
the HoD Honors & Awards awardees selected by September 30th
to ensure their biographical histories are assembled in time
to be published in the Convention awards booklet -- as is done
with the AAPG awardees. In this case, the early deadline would
only be an issue in the years where AAPG has an early convention
(like Houston, in 2002).
- To
recommend changes be made to the qualifications for Honors and
Awards from "only a person who has served as a Delegate within
the previous two (2) years may receive an award" to "only a
person who has served as a Delegate within the previous two
(2) years or an At-large Member of the House of Delegates may
receive an award". This would open the field of eligible persons
who have served the House, but not as a delegate within the
last two years.
