"Explore Your Future" Membership Drive
AAPG has
launched a new membership drive and you can participate and win
fabulous prizes!
As
delegates, one part of our job is to recruit members. Take a look
at Item 8 on the Delegate Job Description you should have
recently received in the mail:

Delegates shall actively solicit applications from eligible geoscientists
and those in related fields for membership in the Association.

Contest Time Period:
August
27, 2002 at APPEX Houston through 4:00 p.m., CDT on April 30, 2003.
All member applications must be submitted and be at AAPG Headquarters
by 4:00 p.m., April 30, 2003 in order to be counted in the membership
drive contest.
Earning of Points:
Each recruiter
is awarded one point for each validated Active or Associate member
application completed and submitted by the recruiter to AAPG during
the contest time period.
Validation:
In order
to be valid for the contest, a member application must be complete,
and the applicant must appear to be eligible for membership subject
to any approvals or waivers provided in the AAPG Bylaws. Active
member applications may be for new membership, reinstated membership,
or transfer from another classification of membership. Associate
member applications may be for new membership or reinstated membership.
Suspended members will not be considered as new, reinstated, or
transfers for the purposes of this membership drive program, and
will not be counted for earning of prizes.
AAPG's
membership department will review the application for validity.
If a member application is determined not to be valid, the recruiter
will be so notified.
Awards:
Awards
for the AAPG membership drive contest are as follows:
a.Grand
Prize - Trip to AAPG's international conference and exhibition in
Barcelona, Spain, September 21-24, 2003.
The Grand
Prize is comprised of professional registration, four nights hotel
accommodations (double occupancy) at a hotel selected by AAPG, and
a $1,000 travel voucher.
b. AAPG
desk flag for the submission of first validated member application.
c. Distinctive
lapel pin for the submission of third validated member application.
d. Upgraded
lapel pin and name in Explorer for recruitment of six or more validated
member applications.
e. The
top recruiter in each Section and Region will be awarded 250 AAPG
dollars.
f. The
second place recruiter in each Section and Region will be awarded
100 AAPG dollars.
Drawings:
Recruiters
will be eligible to win additional prizes for member applications
submitted at specified AAPG sponsored meetings. (See
list of meetings below) For each member application submitted
at a meeting, the recruiter will have his/her name entered into
a drawing which will be held at the end of the meeting. The recruiter's
name drawn at the end of each meeting will be sent 150 AAPG dollars
after the recruiter's applications submitted at the meeting have
been validated.
Grand Prize:
The Grand
Prize will be awarded to the recruiter who submits the most validated
member applications during the contest time period.
Should
there be a tie for the Grand Prize, the following process will determine
the Grand Prize winner:
Should
two or more recruiters submit the highest number of validated member
applications during the contest time period, the Grand Prize will
be awarded on the basis of a drawing in which the names of the recruiters
submitting the highest number of validated member applications will
be placed in a bowl with one name drawn as the winner of the Grand
Prize.
The drawing
for the Grand Prize will be conducted by AAPG 's Ad Hoc Membership
Enhancement and Development Committee, chaired by David G. Campbell.
Section and Region
awards:
Should
there be a tie for a section or region award, the winner and runner-up
will be determined by the same procedure as the Grand Prize winner
is determined subject to the following:
If two
recruiters submit the highest number of validated applications,
the name not drawn shall receive the second place award. If more
than two recruiters submit the highest number of validated applications,
the first name drawn shall receive the first place award and the
second name drawn shall receive the second place award.
Referee:
The AAPG
Executive Committee will decide all issues and disputes which may
develop from the membership drive program.
Definitions:
Reinstated
membership:
Membership
of a former member who has been dropped from AAPG membership rolls.
Suspended
members:
Members
are considered suspended if they have not paid dues for one fiscal
year. Suspended members are carried on AAPG membership rolls until
end of fiscal year in which dues are not paid.
AAPG Dollars:
Cash
equivalent which can be used for purchase of AAPG Products and
Services. (AAPG dollars have no cash value and can't be used for
on-line purchases.)
