AAPG Insurance Program

by Terry Hollrah, Chairman-Elect

The AAPG Insurance Program is overseen by a group of highly dedicated individual members that comprise the Insurance Committee. The mission of this committee is: "To provide the best possible insurance coverage at the least possible cost to the members of AAPG and all other participating organizations."

Recently, one of AAPG's fifty-year members wrote the following to President Robbie Gries, "You may be curious about my longevity as a member. The key word is insurance. In the early 1960s, I was a young geologist who was trying to make a living on his own. I had the usual responsibilities of a family and mortgage. AAPG came out with its medical insurance plan, which I jumped on eagerly as I needed the insurance. It was one of the best investments I have made."

The AAPG GeoCare insurance program has grown a little since the early 1960s. As of January 31, 2002, the GeoCare program has over 12,200 certificates of insurance in force with a total annual premium of over 10.6 million dollars. With the addition of SPE last year as a new group member, the certificates in place have now grown to over 14,000 and a total annual premium in excess of 13 million dollars.

The Association Group Insurance Administrators (AGIA) as the program administrator, and Creekmore Livingston, Inc. with Michael Strunk as the broker, do an incredible job of finding the best programs for the AAPG membership.

GeoCare coverage now includes the following: Comprehensive Health Care; MSA Qualified Health; Term Life; Twice Life; Disability Income; Cancer Expense; Catastrophic Major Medical; Easy Rx In-Hospital; Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Dental Insurance.
