The Delegates' Voice

Newsletter for the House of Delegates of AAPG

SEPTEMBER, 2001

Secretary/Editor's Corner

Marty Hewitt, Secretary/Editor

As you can see from this issue, each of the Standing and Ad-Hoc Committees is up and running in this "shortened" year between House meetings. There are less than 9 months between meetings and to comply with our mandated deadlines for distributing House information to the Delegates, we really have only 5-6 months to complete the work for the 2001-2002 term.

Given this abbreviated timeframe, communication will be critical to our success over the next few months.

Our primary vehicle for communication is The Delegates' Voice. We plan to have 3 issues this term. Our November issue will feature HOD Executive Candidate biographies, deadlines for HOD business, notice of the HOD mid-year meeting which is planned for November and reports from each of the Committees. The January issue will feature "near-final" reports and the agenda for the annual meeting scheduled for Sunday March 10, 2002 in Houston. We have also asked Pat Gratton to write a history article for each issue this term.

The Delegates' Voice is made possible thanks to the hard work of several individuals whom I would like to recognize: Pat Gratton, Terry Hollrah, Mark Longman and Debra Osborne from the Newsletter Committee and Linda Ramsey and Larry Nation from AAPG HQ.

I would welcome your contribution of articles and comments concerning The Delegates' Voice.

A complementary vehicle of communication that was initiated last year is the Delegates' Forum at www.aapg.org. If you have not yet visited the Forum, I would encourage you to do so. The Forum provides a much more timely opportunity to share ideas and the work of the HOD. If you have visited the Forum, you will see that each article only receives about 30 or so hits. Most of us have had a year to experiment with the Forum and I would like to see it utilized more this term. Again, our short year will dictate that we take advantage of timely communication opportunities which the Forum affords. To post and reply to articles on the Forum, a "username" is required. Please contact me at Send an email to Marty Hewitt. if you require a "username."

In closing, I would like to reiterate that it is my goal as Secretary/Editor to enhance communication amongst the members of the House and I look forward to working with Ed, Terry and the various House Committees. Thank you again for this opportunity to serve the House and AAPG.
