The Delegates' Voice

Newsletter for the House of Delegates of AAPG

January, 2000

Chairman's Corner

Chairman

Since the last Delegates' Voice, your Officers, Committee Chairman and Members have been very busy. The major highlight of our activities, since my last column in November, was the first-ever House of Delegates Mid-year meeting, held in Dallas on January 8th. The day long meeting included the HOD officers, chairmen of each HOD standing committee, the Ad-Hoc House Procedures Committee, chaired by Past Chairman Gratton and the last three Past Chairmen of the House of Delegates. Our Saturday evening wrap-up dinner also included three invited guests along with their wives from the AAPG Executive Committee; Ray Thomasson, President, Marlan Downey, President-Elect, and Terry Hollrah, Treasurer. You'll hear more about this wonderful event from Deborah Sacrey, the Secretary/Editor, who will provide you with more of the details of the meeting in her column of this issue.

I hope that you will find this issue of The Delegate's Voice very informative. This month it is inundated with useful information concerning the upcoming Annual Meeting of the House, which is now less than 90 days away. Please pay close attention to both the Constitution and Bylaws and Rules and Procedures Committee reports, as they document the resolutions that we will vote on in New Orleans.

Another important facet of the newsletter this month is to inform you that this year, for the first time, the House of Delegates will be presenting Awards. Larry Jones from Houston is the Chairman of the HOD H&A Committee. He and his committee are currently looking for nominations, from the Delegates, for the three standing Awards. So, if there are members in your delegations that you believe deserve recognition please nominate those individuals and prepare the appropriate documentation for Larry before February 15th.

As always, if you would like to contact me concerning issues of the House or the Association please drop me a line. I can be reached at:.

Chairman-Elect Column

Since my last column, I have inherited an ad hoc committee assignment from John to review possible liaison assignments for the office of Chairman-Elect. The committee is composed of the four immediate past Chairmen and the two candidates of Chairman-Elect of the HOD. We are well on our way to a division of labor to relieve some of the load that falls on the Chairman's shoulders. Since the Chairman is a member of the AAPG Executive Committee as well as HOD leader, we are striving to make the Chairman job a little easier, and at a most fortuitous time for me, I might add!

I recently participated in the first-ever Mid-year House of Delegates Meeting. The time was well spent organizing, discussing, and evaluating issues, concerns and even organization of the HOD. The participation of officer candidates in the deliberations was beneficial to continuing efforts of the HOD. Having Ray, Marlan, Terry, and their spouses join us for dinner provided an opportunity to coordinate with the Executive Committee.

The flow of questionnaires sent out in the November issue of The Delegates' Voice has begun to ebb recently. This would refer to the "Requested Poll Questions" insert regarding the number of past-Presidents and past-HOD Chairmen serving on the Advisory Council. I will be making a report on the results of this survey at our meeting in New Orleans. That report will only be as valid as the number of questionnaires upon which it is based, so I really need your help. If you haven't sent in your questionnaire yet, please take some time to do so and send it to me. Thanks.

Noting John and Deborah have added their e-mail addresses at the end of their columns, I will offer the same advanced communications technology. If you have any questions, comments, issues or concerns, please contact me at .
